Wild Idol launched in 2022 with a different approach to alcohol-free sparkling wine. Rather than making wine and removing the alcohol, they skip fermentation entirely. The grapes never develop alcohol in the first place, meaning nothing needs to be stripped out and minimal handling keeps the wine closer to its natural state.

The range uses German grape varietals including Müller-Thurgau, Dornfelder, and Merlot from southwest Germany's renowned winemaking region. English winemakers handle production, bringing proper wine expertise to the process.

The Sparkling White shows pale straw colour with fine bubbles, bright green apple character, and aromas of white peach and honeyed melon. It's vegan, gluten-free, and low-calorie. The Rosé rounds out the current range.

At around £30-35 per bottle, Wild Idol sits firmly in the premium category. The pricing reflects the approach: this isn't trying to be cheap wine without alcohol, it's trying to be genuinely excellent alcohol-free sparkling wine.

Reviews consistently praise the taste. The fizz is subtle rather than aggressive, there's warmth and spice with a pleasant sharp finish, and the wine avoids the over-sweetness and artificial flavours that plague cheaper options. Best served chilled to 4°C in a wide-lipped tulip glass.

Available through wine merchants and fine wine retailers. Wild Idol suits special occasions that call for quality bubbles without the alcohol.
