MOMO Kombucha started in a south London kitchen on New Year's Day 2017. Josh and Lisa had discovered the fermented tea on a trip to New York and returned home obsessed with making their own. Jobs were quit. An upstairs bedroom became a fermentation room. Five fridges lined one wall of their house. What began as experimentation became one of the UK's most respected kombucha brands.

The brewing method sets MOMO apart. Where industrial producers use large stainless steel tanks and automated processes, MOMO ferments in small 10-litre glass jars. It's slower and more labour-intensive, but the approach produces kombucha that's completely unfiltered, certified organic through the Soil Association, with live cultures intact. Traditional methods, scaled up just enough to reach a wider audience.

The core range covers four flavours. Ginger-Lemon leads as the bestseller, bringing warmth and citrus brightness. Turmeric offers earthy depth. Elderflower keeps things light and refreshing. Raspberry-Hibiscus has enough complexity to satisfy at social occasions where you'd otherwise reach for wine.

From that bedroom start-up, MOMO has grown significantly. They now operate from railway arches at New Covent Garden Market in London, having secured substantial investment to expand production. In 2022 they became one of the highest-scoring B Corp kombucha companies in Europe. Great Taste Awards across the range have added to a solid reputation in the UK health food market.
