About This Drink
Blue Lemon 0.0 uses the same four-ingredient lager that goes into Beck's Blue, brewed to the Reinheitsgebot in Bremen, de-alcoholised, then blended with lemon flavouring. The approach is straightforward, which is probably why it works. The pour is pale and clear with a quickly-fading head. Lemon is the dominant note throughout: fresh peel on the nose, clean and moderately sharp on the palate, with the base lager's light bitterness giving it some structure underneath. It's less sweet than many fruit-flavoured alcohol-free drinks, which keeps it from feeling cloying. The finish is dry and the carbonation is brisk. It sits in familiar shandy territory but with a cleaner, drier profile than most. Worth trying cold, ideally straight from the can rather than poured.
