Fre White Zinfandel is made from Zinfandel grapes grown in California's warm inland valleys, processed in the off-dry California blush style before the alcohol is removed via spinning cone. Of all the wines in the Fre range it has the highest juice content, at 28%, which drives the sweet, ripe character. The nose is fragrant with strawberry and cranberry. On the palate ripe berry fruit fills the mid-palate, sweet-edged and soft, with a gentle freshness in the background stopping it from becoming cloying. The finish lingers quietly. This is not a wine that pretends to be dry. Serve well-chilled. Suits tapas, crab cakes or spiced food where the sweetness acts as a counterbalance.
