Fre Sparkling Brut starts as a still California wine made from cool, marine-influenced vineyards. After fermentation, the spinning cone process removes alcohol to below 0.5% ABV with the aromatics preserved, then carbonation is added separately. The pour is pale straw with fine persistent bubbles. Green apple and ripe pear sit on the nose, clean and fresh rather than yeasty or biscuity. Apple carries through on the palate alongside a faint strawberry note, with the bubbles keeping things lively. The finish is dry for a dealcoholised sparkling wine, which makes it more versatile than the sweeter end of the category. A practical option for celebrations or anywhere a bit of sparkle is needed.
