Herbal Juniper is Giffard's gin alternative in their Non-Alcoholic Cocktail Base range. Rather than distillation, it's made from juniper extract with cardamom and coriander seed essential oil. It pours cloudy white, which is a reasonable visual cue for the botanical density inside. On the nose it's aromatic: smooth juniper at the centre, grassy citrus freshness around it, and a botanical sweetness that hints at cardamom. The palate brings juniper forward more assertively, with almond and pine notes developing alongside, and the finish is clearly woody. There's a layered quality here that goes beyond simple flavouring. At 18kcal per 100ml and 4g sugar it's among the lightest in the Giffard range. It won't replicate gin's alcoholic warmth or the sharp heat of a neat spirit, but the botanical character is genuine and it builds well in Negroni-style or G&T-style serves.
