Free - Alcohol Free Sparkling
A 0.0% sparkling made from Glera grapes in the Veneto region of Italy, where the grape must is cold-preserved before fermentation can begin rather than having alcohol removed afterwards.
About This Drink
Most alcohol-free sparkling wine starts life as a finished wine and then has the alcohol stripped out. Sea Change takes a different route: they press Glera grapes and immediately chill the must to halt fermentation before it starts. The result is technically a grape-based drink rather than a dealcoholised wine, which sidesteps some of the flavour loss that comes with conventional removal methods. It pours pale straw-gold with fine, persistent bubbles. The nose is light and fresh, elderflower and green apple with a faint mintiness. On the palate there's pear and soft citrus, a gentle herbal thread, and just enough black pepper spice to stop things feeling flat. The finish is dry rather than sweet, which puts it ahead of a lot of the sugary alternatives in this category. At 0.0% ABV it's a reasonable choice for a celebratory setting when you want something in a flute that doesn't taste like cordial. Best served very cold.
