Spright is Tartarus Beers' low-alcohol IPA, a 0.5% brew from a small-batch Leeds brewery better known for its dark beers. The grain bill leans on wheat and oats to build body and texture that the low ABV would otherwise strip away. Citra, Idaho 7 and Simcoe do the heavy lifting in the aroma: ripe citrus, mango and passion fruit upfront, with a thread of resinous pine behind. It's a big, forward nose for a beer of this strength. The palate follows in the same direction, tropical fruit and fresh citrus peel with a bite of bitterness that carries through to the finish. The wheat and oat base keeps things from feeling thin. The finish is dry and resinous, pine lingering after the fruit has faded.
