About This Drink
Helles Good is Amundsen's attempt at the Munich Helles style, and they have kept the recipe straightforward: water, barley malt, hops and yeast, brewed in the traditional lager fashion. It pours clear golden straw with a soft white head. Cereal malt and light bread crust come forward on the nose, with subtle grassy hops in the background. The flavour is clean and gently sweet, cracker and soft honey with a modest noble hop bitterness that closes the palate without overstaying its welcome. Light-bodied, well balanced, finishing dry. Nothing about this is trying to overreach. It is a competent, clean lager that does the Helles job. At 0.5% it holds the style together better than a lot of AF lagers manage, and the finish is genuinely dry rather than sweet and flat.
