About This Drink
Mahou is one of Spain's oldest brewery names, and the Tostada is its attempt at something a bit more interesting than a pale lager zero. The toasted malts push the colour into deep amber-gold territory and bring a biscuit and caramel character that plain lager simply doesn't have. It pours with a decent cream head and smells clean and malt-forward. There's no hop aroma to speak of, which is consistent with the style. In the glass the toasted grain is the main event: biscuity through the middle, finishing dry without any sweetness hanging around. The body is light, as you'd expect at 0.0%, but the carbonation is soft rather than fizzy, which helps it drink more smoothly than some. Not a complex beer, but it does what it sets out to do. A decent option if you want something with a bit more colour and malt character than a standard pale lager.
