About This Drink
Stiegl is one of Austria's oldest private breweries, based in Salzburg since 1492. The 0,0% Alkoholfrei is a proper lager in the traditional sense, bottom-fermented and brewed to a 6.4° original gravity before the alcohol is removed by gentle evaporation. No beer flavourings are added to compensate, which keeps it honest. It pours clear and pale gold with a firm white head. The aroma is light: malt up front, a trace of noble hops, a faint grassy note. On the palate there's a round malt body with mild biscuit sweetness and enough restrained bitterness to stop things going flat. It's not complex, but it's clean and properly made. The finish is short and dry with a gentle cereal grain fade. Serve well chilled. This is the kind of lager that won't surprise anyone, but it does the job without compromise.
