GUTsy Captain Zero Pomegranate removes all sugar through extended SCOBY fermentation before adding natural pomegranate flavour and organic carrot concentrate. Pomegranate is one of the few flavours that benefits from less sweetness: without it, the dry, slightly astringent quality of the fruit becomes more pronounced and more interesting. The aroma is dry and berry-led, with the tannic note of pomegranate skin alongside the clean tartness of kombucha. On the palate the pomegranate reads as tart and pleasantly bitter, with a light floral quality that prevents it from being harsh. The fermented tea adds structure and depth. The finish is dry and lingers, with a subtle astringency that fades slowly. Of all the Zero variants, this one arguably benefits most from the absence of sugar. It is a genuinely interesting kombucha in its own right.
