Tropical IPA is Drop Bear's most hop-forward offering. Four American varieties (Simcoe, Ekuanot, El Dorado, Citra) are used, which pushes the aroma and flavour firmly into tropical territory: mango, passionfruit, pineapple and citrus, with a resinous edge underneath. The malt base is a blend of pale and crystal, giving enough body to carry the hops without getting in the way. The hazy amber pour and frothy mouthfeel are in keeping with the style. Bitterness on the finish is real but balanced rather than aggressive, and the overall impression is more juicy than bitter. At 49 calories per 330ml, it's on the lighter side for something with this much hop character. Gluten-free (under 10ppm) and vegan.
