Ara
From the Wairau Valley in Marlborough, New Zealand, Ara takes its name from the Māori word for pathway. The winery sits on a unique terrace at the confluence of two rivers, where deep shingle and alluvial soils produce distinctive cool-climate wines.
The vineyards were first developed in 1999, and Ara has since become part of Indevin, New Zealand's largest wine producer. Their winemaking philosophy centres on letting Marlborough fruit speak for itself, with minimal intervention and a commitment to sustainable practices they call kaitiakitanga, or guardianship of the land.
Ara Zero is their alcohol-free range. The Sauvignon Blanc leads the lineup, made from premium Marlborough grapes and gently dealcoholised to preserve those signature passionfruit, lime and gooseberry notes. A Rosé rounds out the offering, bringing strawberry and citrus character.
The wines have done well at international competitions, earning recognition in dealcoholised wine categories. The Sauvignon Blanc in particular has impressed judges who know their Marlborough, which is not a region that makes it easy to fake.
You'll find Ara Zero at UK retailers including Ocado and specialist alcohol-free shops like Dry Drinker and Wise Bartender. A solid mid-to-premium option for those who want genuine New Zealand provenance in their glass.
