La Gioiosa
La Gioiosa takes its name from the ancient description of Treviso, the Italian province known as "Marca gioiosa et amorosa", the joyful and loving land. Founded in 1974, the winery is run by the Moretti Polegato family, whose roots in Prosecco country stretch back to the 1920s when Giancarlo Moretti Polegato's grandfather first purchased vineyards in the Treviso hills.
Today La Gioiosa ranks among Italy's principal wine producers, exporting widely across Europe and beyond. Their home remains Crocetta del Montello in the heart of the official Prosecco DOC and DOCG zones, roughly an hour from Venice. The family operates multiple estates across the region, growing Glera (the Prosecco grape) alongside Pinot Grigio, Pinot Nero, and Ribolla Gialla.
Sustainability runs through their operation. The Nervesa della Battaglia estate achieved Biodiversity Friend certification, pioneering viticulture that works with existing habitats rather than against them. The winery uses hydroelectric power generated by the nearby Piave river to reduce its carbon footprint.
Their alcohol-free sparkling wine brings Italian winemaking credentials to the zero-alcohol category. Made from Glera grapes and de-alcoholised to 0.0% ABV, it pours pale straw yellow with persistent fine bubbles. The nose delivers ripe golden apple, citrus, and hints of white blossom. On the palate it stays crisp rather than cloying, a common pitfall for dealcoholised wines, and it sits well below standard Prosecco on calories.
La Gioiosa's regular Prosecco turns up in most UK supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury's, and Majestic. The alcohol-free version has more limited distribution, available primarily through specialist retailers like Dry Drinker and Wise Bartender. The heritage is genuine; the reach of the AF range is still catching up.
