Schneider
Georg Schneider I and his son acquired Munich's oldest wheat beer brewery in 1872, founding a dynasty that continues today. G. Schneider & Sohn remains family-owned across six generations, one of Bavaria's most respected wheat beer specialists.
The brewery operates from Kelheim on the Danube, employing around 100 people and distributing across Germany and into 27 other countries. Each beer style carries a tap number, a tradition dating back to when beers were drawn from numbered taps in the brewery's own taverns.
TAP 3 is their alcohol-free wheat beer, first brewed in 2002. It sits at under 0.5% ABV and is marketed as an isotonic option, positioned squarely at active drinkers and recovery. The brewing process begins with genuine fermentation before alcohol is removed, preserving aromatic fruit and malt character along with the natural cloudiness typical of the style.
In the glass, it tastes like proper Bavarian Weissbier rather than a thin imitation. Banana and clove notes from traditional wheat beer yeast come through, balanced by malt sweetness and the lively effervescence that makes the style so drinkable.
UK availability comes through specialist German beer importers and online retailers. The range is narrow, but what's there is rooted in genuine brewing tradition.
