Uiltje
Uiltje Brewing Company started in a Haarlem kitchen in 2012 when three friends decided their homebrew was good enough to share. By 2016, crowdfunding had helped them build a proper brewery in the Waarderpolder industrial area. The owls on their labels became recognisable across the Dutch craft scene.
Their approach leans heavily into hops. IPAs, double IPAs, and hop-forward styles dominate the range, each pushing boundaries while staying drinkable. In 2021, Royal Swinkels Family Brewers acquired the brewery, bringing resources while maintaining the brand's identity.
The alcohol-free range carries the same hoppy DNA. Bird Of Prey (formerly called Superb-Owl until the name got too close to American football territory) delivers IPA character at 0.2% ABV. Juicy Lucy takes the hazy NEIPA style and strips out the alcohol without losing the tropical fruit and soft mouthfeel that defines the style.
Haarlem locals can visit the source: the brewery has a bottleshop onsite, and the Uiltje Craft Beer Bar in central Haarlem keeps 30 taps rotating plus over 120 bottles. The taproom crowd skews toward craft enthusiasts who appreciate what the brewery does with hops.
Available through specialist beer retailers and the brewery's online shop. For Dutch craft beer drinkers going alcohol-free, Uiltje provides familiar quality in an unfamiliar format.
