Madri
Madri Excepcional emerged from a collaboration between Molson Coors and La Sagra, a craft brewery based in Toledo, Spain. The partnership aimed to create a modern European lager with Spanish character, brewed to British standards. Despite the Madrid-inspired branding, production happens at Tower Brewery in Tadcaster, Yorkshire.
The brand launched in the UK and quickly became a fixture in pubs and supermarkets. By 2024, it had climbed to become the fourth most-sold lager in Britain. That's a remarkable rise for a beer trading on continental style rather than heritage.
Madri positions itself as a "world beer" with aspirational Spanish lifestyle marketing. The core lager comes in at 4.6% ABV with a light golden pour and a crisp, clean finish. Think refreshing rather than complex.
The alcohol-free version, Madri Excepcional 0.0%, arrived in March 2025. Brewed at the same Tadcaster facility, it uses dealcoholisation technology to remove the alcohol while preserving the character of the original. Available in 330ml bottle multipacks, it targets drinkers who want to stick with a familiar brand on alcohol-free occasions.
You'll find Madri in most major supermarkets including Morrisons, Tesco, and Sainsbury's, plus a growing presence in pubs and bars. The 0.0% sits squarely in the mainstream lager bracket: familiar branding, clean and unchallenging, aimed at brand loyalists rather than AF enthusiasts.
