Farm Yard Brew Co
Farm Yard Brew Co grew out of a working Lancashire farm. Steven Holmes, sixth generation at Moss Edge Farm in Cockerham, saw the writing on the wall for traditional agriculture. His home brewing hobby offered a different path forward. In 2017, with backing from family, friends, and rural development funding, Farm Yard Ales was born.
The brewery sits down a country lane near Lancaster, surrounded by fields. That rural isolation hasn't held them back. Holmes and head brewer Darius started with a 2,000 litre brew plant, adding a canning line in 2018 and a taproom overlooking the brewhouse. When COVID shuttered pubs in 2020, they pivoted hard to canned distribution, pushing through over a million cans that year alone. The taproom has since earned recognition as one of the best craft beer destinations in the country.
Their permanent range runs to around a dozen beers. Gulf, their flagship IPA, picked up a Great Taste Award and landed in the top 20 UK food and drink products from thousands of entries. The range spans session IPAs, stouts, pilsners, and collaboration brews. They've added solar panels to the site, now generating half their annual energy needs.
On the alcohol-free front, Float On is their current offering. This 0.5% pale ale builds on an oat-heavy base for body and mouthfeel, hopped with Nectaron and Superdelic for tropical, citrus-forward character. It's a proper craft AF beer rather than an afterthought.
You can visit the taproom Thursday through Sunday, order online for delivery, or find their beers through specialist retailers. For anyone in Lancashire looking for local craft beer with an alcohol-free option, Farm Yard delivers.
