Inch's
Inch's traces its roots back to 1916 when Sam Inch founded a cider operation in Winkleigh, Devon. The brand changed hands several times over the decades, eventually landing with Heineken through their ownership of Bulmers. In 2021, Heineken relaunched Inch's as a sustainability-focused mainstream cider brand, and it quickly became one of the most successful cider launches in years.
The cider is made at Bulmers' Hereford Ciderie using 100% British apples from 27 different varieties, all grown within 40 miles of the mill. The sustainability angle is more than marketing. Apple pulp left over after pressing gets converted into biofuel, generating enough renewable energy to power around a thousand homes annually.
Inch's 0.0 arrived in early 2025 as the first dealcoholised cider in the UK market. The team at Hereford developed a dealcoholisation process designed to retain the fresh apple character of their flagship Medium Apple cider. It sits alongside the original 4.5% Medium Apple, a 4.0% Cloudy variant, and Riversider in the current range.
The brand targets younger drinkers who want something more contemporary than traditional farmhouse ciders. It sits in the mainstream segment alongside Strongbow and Kopparberg rather than the craft end of the market. Distribution is broad, covering supermarkets, convenience stores, and pubs across the UK.
Inch's 0.0 is new enough that the jury is still out on how well the dealcoholisation holds up. The Hereford team's track record with the original gives reasonable grounds for optimism, but it's a brand worth watching rather than a settled recommendation.
