Walter Hicks founded St Austell Brewery in 1851, making it one of Cornwall's oldest businesses. Five generations later, the family still runs things, one of only 30 independently family-owned brewers remaining in the UK.

The brewery anchors over 160 pubs across Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, and Dorset. Proper Job IPA and Korev Lager have earned devoted followings, while Tribute remains their flagship ale. Cornish identity runs through everything they do.

Proper Job 0.5% brings their hoppy IPA character to alcohol-free drinking. The bold, zingy profile comes through: pineapple and grapefruit notes from Cascade and Chinook hops, balanced by smooth malty sweetness. Awards followed, along with genuine appreciation from beer fans who recognised this as proper IPA rather than watered-down imitation.

The approach matters. St Austell didn't create a separate alcohol-free brand or treat the category as an afterthought. They applied their brewing expertise to produce something that belongs alongside their full-strength beers.

UK availability is strong through their pub estate, online shop, and supermarket listings. For West Country beer lovers who've reduced their alcohol intake, St Austell offers familiar quality in a low-ABV package.
