Weihenstephaner
Weihenstephaner claims to be the world's oldest brewery, and the history backs it up. Beer has been brewed on the Weihenstephan Hill in Freising, Bavaria since 1040. The site traces back even further: hop cultivation in the area dates to 768, and monks established brewing traditions that continue today under Bavarian state ownership.
Now producing 16 different beers distributed to over 60 countries, Weihenstephaner combines that heritage with genuine innovation. Their non-alcoholic wheat beer showcases this approach. Rather than stopping fermentation early and sacrificing flavour, they brew the beer fully, then remove the alcohol using falling film evaporation developed with the Technical University of Munich-Weihenstephan.
The result tastes like wheat beer should: sparkling and fresh with honey nuances, inviting yeasty notes, and that signature clove aroma. Fewer calories and carbohydrates than the alcoholic version, but the character remains intact.
Weihenstephaner positions this as a recovery drink for athletes and active people. The isotonic properties and refreshing qualities make it genuinely useful after exercise, not just acceptable.
Available widely at supermarkets and specialist beer retailers. For wheat beer enthusiasts who want the real Bavarian experience without the alcohol, Weihenstephaner offers nearly a thousand years of brewing expertise in every bottle.
