Stella Artois traces its roots to the Den Hoorn brewery in Leuven, Belgium, where brewing records date back to 1366. The brand itself emerged in 1926 when the Artois brewery released a special Christmas beer named after the festive star. What began as a seasonal offering became a year-round staple, and by the 1930s Stella was heading across European borders.

Today the brand sits within the AB InBev portfolio, the world's largest brewing company. Stella remains one of the most recognised lager brands globally, positioned as a premium continental pilsner in the UK market. The distinctive chalice glass and Belgian heritage form central pillars of its identity.

Stella Artois launched its 0.0% alcohol-free version in the UK during 2020, joining the growing wave of mainstream lagers offering AF alternatives. The beer is brewed in Belgium using water, malted barley, hops, sugar, and natural flavourings, with alcohol removed after the standard brewing process.

The result sits comfortably within the familiar Stella territory. Expect a clear amber pour with light carbonation, floral and lemon aromas, and a clean malt character. Saaz hops provide gentle bitterness, though the finish leans slightly sweeter than the alcoholic original.

Stella 0.0 picked up recognition at industry tastings shortly after launch, earning praise as a competent entry in the alcohol-free lager category. It won't convert craft beer enthusiasts, but that's not really the point. Stella drinkers looking to cut back will find it a comfortable fit, and it's one of the more approachable introductions to the AF lager category for the uninitiated.

Availability is excellent. You'll find Stella 0.0 in most major UK supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury's, and Asda, plus convenience stores and many pubs. The brand's distribution muscle means it's often one of the easiest AF lagers to find when you're out.
