Nix & Kix launched in 2016 with a simple twist: cayenne pepper in soft drinks. Founders Julia Kessler and Kerstin Robinson wanted to challenge the sweetness that dominates the category, creating something for adults who'd grown tired of sugary options.

Every drink combines real fruit with sparkling water and a hint of cayenne. No added sugar, no sweeteners, no artificial additives. The heat isn't overwhelming. It's a warming kick that adds depth and interest, making these drinks more than flavoured water.

The core range covers five flavours. Mango & Ginger brings tropical warmth. Raspberry & Rhubarb balances tartness and sweetness. Blood Orange & Turmeric adds an earthy, vibrant note. Watermelon & Hibiscus keeps things light and floral. Cucumber & Mint delivers cooling refreshment. All lean on fruit juice to keep things naturally low in calories without reaching for sweeteners.

The brand built solid distribution across major UK retailers including Tesco, Morrisons, Co-op, and Ocado. It proved there was genuine appetite for grown-up soft drinks that didn't rely on sugar or artificial sweeteners to carry flavour.

In October 2024, Amsterdam-based Good Food Vibes acquired the brand's assets after challenging market conditions hit the premium soft drinks sector. Distribution continues through Petty Wood, keeping the drinks available in the UK market.

The cayenne is the point. It gives these drinks a moment, a reason to pay attention rather than just sip on autopilot. Whether that gimmick becomes a habit depends on your tolerance for a slow burn.
