Amplify
Amplify arrived on the UK alcohol-free scene in 2019 with a straightforward proposition: a distilled non-alcoholic spirit that actually tastes like something worth drinking. Produced by Intercontinental Brands at their Middlesbrough facility, Amplify brings decades of spirits expertise to the growing zero-proof category.
The liquid itself follows traditional distillation methods. Juniper berries, coriander seeds, angelica root, lemon peel, lemongrass, and ginseng root combine to create a botanical base with proper depth. Orange citrus dominates the flavour profile, bright and punchy, while the ginseng and juniper add an earthy, slightly bitter backbone that keeps things interesting. It drinks like a spirit rather than flavoured water.
Amplify works best with tonic. The brand suggests Mediterranean tonic and an orange twist, which makes sense given the citrus-forward character. It also holds its own in cocktails where you want botanical complexity without the alcohol. The 50cl bottle sits at the accessible end of the AF spirits market, making it an easy entry point for the curious.
Distribution focuses on UK supermarkets. You will find Amplify on shelves at Morrisons and Tesco, which gives it genuine reach beyond specialist retailers. Ready-to-drink cans followed the bottle launch, mixing the spirit with Mediterranean tonic for convenience. At around 65 calories per can, they offer a lighter option for those watching their intake.
The bottle design deserves a mention. Brighton artist Sophie Abbott created the label artwork, a landscape painting that gives Amplify some visual personality on the shelf. It is a small detail, but it signals that someone thought about the whole package rather than just the liquid inside.
Amplify occupies a sensible spot in the AF spirits landscape. It does not chase the premium end of the market or claim to revolutionise anything. Instead, it delivers a well-made botanical spirit at a reasonable price, available where most people actually shop. Worth trying if you are curious about AF spirits but not ready to pay premium prices to find out.
