Corona
Corona traces its roots to 1925, when German brewmaster Adolph Schmedtje created the recipe for Cerveceria Modelo in Mexico City. The brewery had been founded by Spanish immigrants, and Corona would go on to become Mexico's most famous beer export. That distinctive clear bottle with the painted label became an icon of beach culture worldwide, synonymous with lime wedges and sunshine.
Now owned by AB InBev globally (with Constellation Brands holding US rights), Corona remains one of the world's best-selling beer brands. The alcohol-free version, Corona Cero, first appeared in Mexico in 2016 before rolling out across Europe in early 2022.
Corona Cero aims to capture the character of the original Extra. It pours a pale golden colour with the same light, easy-drinking profile that made Corona a poolside staple. The flavour leans crisp and clean, with subtle malt sweetness and gentle hop bitterness. There's a hint of that distinctive Corona character, though purists might find it slightly lighter than the original. Best served properly cold with a lime wedge, naturally.
The alcohol-free version sits at 0.0% ABV in most markets, making it suitable for those avoiding alcohol entirely. The addition of Vitamin D in some markets adds a functional twist to the beach beer positioning.
You'll find Corona Cero in most major UK supermarkets, and it's become a fixture in pubs and restaurants offering alcohol-free options. It's not trying to be a craft beer or reinvent anything. It's Corona, without the alcohol.
